| The ZERO RACE Adventure: 80 Days around the World with Renewable Energy (08/12/10) The first-ever around the world event featuring electric cars will take place involving five teams from four continents: Switzerland, Spain, South Korea, Australia and the US, all of whom are taking up the challenge to complete the race in 80 days. In 2008, Louis Palmer became the first person ever to drive a solar-powered car around the world in a project known as the Solartaxi, taking 534 days to complete the circumnavigation and spread the powerful message that renewable energies are reliable, affordable and ecologically responsible! The Zero Race Adventure will start in Geneva, Switzerland, on 15 August 2010, and continue eastwards for a total distance of approximately 30,000 km. The 80-day event (excluding maritime crossings), will cross 16 countries with stops in approximately 150 major cities along the way. Zero Race will visit major cities including Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, Kyiv, Moscow, Astana, Shanghai, Vancouver, San Francisco, Austin and Madrid. The Zero Race will also visit the United Nations World Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of November and finish in Geneva in January 2011. At each Zero Race stop along the route, press conferences and events will be held to mark the attempt. For more information about the project in English, please click here. |
